ATG-Fresenius® S
Our pharmaceutical drug for use in transplantation medicine
For more than 30 years, Fresenius Biotech has been making an important contribution to organ transplantation therapy with the immunosuppressive drug ATG-Fresenius S. To date, more than 190.000 patients have been successfully treated in more than 60 countries throughout the world.
The primary challenge with any transplantation is the reaction of the recipient’s immune system towards the transplanted organ, since the T-lymphocytes and antibodies of the recipient attack the foreign organ. Polyclonal antibodies are used shortly before and/or after a transplantation procedure to prevent the patients own immune system from attacking the transplanted organ.
Antibodies are protein molecules formed by the immune system which bind to select cells and neutralize them. ATG-Fresenius® S is a polyclonal antibody that specifically binds to the patients T-lymphocytes and helps suppress the patient rejection of the transplanted organ. The antibody is used for organ transplants as well as for stem cell transplantation in some countries.
